Zane Zimmerman

He/Him Originally from Winnipeg, Zane Zimmerman started Ukrainian dancing at the age of 17 after watching a performance at a family wedding. As part of his journey with Ukrainian dance, he has been able to dance with numerous groups, providing him with the opportunity to be taught and inspired by many dance professionals; many of whom are from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and local Ukrainian dance community. As his appetite for dance grew, Zane began traveling to Ukraine for workshops and authentic experiences, exposing himself to all facets of the culture resulting in the pursuit of new opportunities. To pursue larger challenges both in his personal and professional life, Zane moved to Edmonton in 2015 and joined Shumka. Having participated in Nutcracker, Kobzar, Ancestors & Elders, and Mosquito’s Wedding, Zane looks forward to the interesting opportunities Shumka offers.

In addition, Zane has had the privilege of teaching Ukrainian dance at times, so that dancers can experience the joy of the art form, as well as gain experiences that have been such an integral part of his life.

Beyond dance, Zane is a structural  EIT with Associated Engineering’s Transportations Structures group. While Zane appreciates the city’s local restaurants and breweries, he’ll never turn down a good Zabava.
