Shumka is looking for experienced female and male dancers to perform: in Ukrainian regional dance repertoire, in the continuing touring production of “Cinderella” and in new contemporary work in Shumka’s dance theatre style. Shumka dancers also participate in world-class projects developed with other theatrical producers.
Auditions are open to the full dance community. Serious dancers who may not have Ukrainian dance experience but have high-calibre training in ballet/jazz dance technique, acrobatics, or stage experience in another style of heritage dance will be given every consideration at these auditions.
In 2003, the Shumka Dancers were pleased to transition to functioning as a professional dance company. Shumka’s high-calibre of artistic work is now complemented with Shumka’s dancers being paid for their art.

Audition Process
Shumka's audition is a three part process that gives you the opportunity to
show yourself in your best light:
- A 2-hour
dance portion. During the time the auditionee will demonstrate their ability
to execute: a ballet/character barre, corner work, centre technique, regional
etudes and their dramatic ability.
Upon successful completion of the part one, dancers are asked to participate
in 2-3 studio classes with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. Upon successful completion of part two, dancers are invited to an interview to discuss
their aspirations as a dancer, their potential contributions to Shumka as a
member, and their understanding of what it means to be a Shumka dancer.
