Purpose

  • To work with the Principal of Shumka School of Dance in preparing and delivering the 2017 Shumka Summer Dance Camps, while ensuring that every camper comes away with a greater understanding of Ukrainian culture and a passion for the art of Ukrainian dance.

Suggested Duties

  • Plan the day-to-day activities of the 2017 Shumka Summer Dance Camps, based on provided programming.
  • Prepare materials needed for all camp programming; deliver, plan, and schedule programming.
  • Supervise campers in all situations.
  • Train, monitor, and evaluate camp Leaders-in-Training.
  • Assist activity facilitators during recreational activities.
  • Manage the day camp before and after-care program.
  • Direct snack preparation during day camps; purchase day camp snack supplies.
  • Direct snack and lunchtime supervision during day camps.
  • Create and adhere to the daily schedules of the camps and make necessary changes if needed.
  • Manage the camp camera during activities.
  • Manage relationships with parents of campers.
  • Direct facility upkeep at all summer camp locations.
  • Ensure professionalism, standards, respect, and integrity at all times and in all situations.
  • Keep a collection of recommendations and feedback, and prepare a final camp report.

Qualifications

  • Must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
  • Must possess current standard First Aid training.
  • Candidates must have at least two years of experience working with children/youth, summer camps, child/youth supervision.
  • Candidates should have knowledge of Ukrainian dance and culture.

Time Frame & Wage

  • Two Positions: 9 weeks – 40 hrs/week – $17/hr (360 hours/position)
  • Anticipated Start Date: Mid June – Anticipated End Date: Mid August

Locations

  • Day Camps: Edmonton Studios, Edmonton, AB (10515 111 Street NW)
  • Overnight Camps: Camp Oselia, Wabamun Lake, AB (Range Road 53 and Highway 16)

Supervision

  • This position reports to the Executive Director of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, but will be working with the Principal of Shumka School on a more daily/regular basis.

 

Ukrainian Shumka Dancers:

+SHUMKA ARCHIVIST

  • Sort, categorize and organize existing archives of the organization in preparation for its 60th Anniversary;
  • Research and seek additional archives to ensure a complete history is in place;
  • Organize a user-friendly system for public access to these archives which include print, video, audio and online resources;
  • Other duties as deemed related and necessary.

May 15 – August 31, 2017 (A maximum total of 16 weeks; 30 hours per week; $15 per hour)

  • International students and Temporary Foreign Workers are not eligible for STEP.
  • Resides and/or attends school in Alberta with an Alberta address
  • Returning to high school or a post-secondary institution no later than November 1.
  • Must be enrolled in a program that will result in a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree. Technical training for Apprenticeship is not eligible
  • Is available for full-time summer employment
  • Participates in only one STEP position during the summer
  • Not currently employed in the organization
  • Not immediately related to the owners or staff responsible for hiring in the organization

+SHUMKA DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT

  • Work on the development of a fundraising campaign for the organization to include:
  • Development of a corporate sponsorship package
  • Development of individual donation campaign materials
  • Plans for stakeholder/funder research and targeting
  • Assistance with implementation of fundraising asks and appropriate follow ups
  • Other duties as deemed related and necessary.
