The General Operations of Shumka

As a non-profit charitable organization, the general operations of Shumka are hard costs of “doing business” that can be supported by your donation. General operations include all the work that is needed to keep the many aspects of Shumka functional, efficient and successful. Given the output of the organization – new works, performances and touring; school and summer camps; in-studio programs and community outreach; development of educational tools and artistic resources – the organization is run with a small staff, a lean budget, and an ongoing reliance on volunteers.

Operational costs include facility management; rent and utilities; artistic and management staff salaries and contracts; dancer fees; dancer training and wellness initiatives; volunteer appreciation; administrative expenses including supplies, copier, postage, telephone; accounting, budgeting and auditing; legal fees; insurance and licenses; marketing; professional development; human resources/personnel management; public and government relations; fund development and fundraising; stakeholder communications (including apps, websites, E-newsletters); employee benefits; computer network, internet, software and database administration and licensing; industry memberships; wardrobe maintenance; equipment rental and maintenance; general production needs; meeting expenses and more.
