School of Dance

Recognized in Edmonton and Canada as the benchmark for progressive and caring Ukrainian dance training, Shumka School of Dance is committed to:

  • engaging young people from all heritage backgrounds in the arts;
  • fostering a love for a broad scope of Ukrainian dance and music;
  • providing solid dance training for young people whose interests in dancing are purely recreational in nature, as well as for those who wish to pursue a career in dance at a professional level, whether in Ukrainian dance with Shumka, or in other dance disciplines.

Your donation to the Shumka School of Dance will be used to expand learning and performing opportunities for our students, including specialized workshops with guest instructors who have specific expertise and training in regional Ukrainian dance styles.  Funds are also used to build the Shumka School’s inventory of costumes and props, which, in turn, helps provide opportunities for students to perform choreography from lesser-known regions of Ukraine as well as contemporary Ukrainian choreography developed by Canadian-born Ukrainian dance artists.
