New Works Fund

This fund was established on the occasion of Shumka’s 50th anniversary - with seed contributions from Sid and Nellie Braaksma, Barbara Poole through the Edmonton Community Foundation, and two anonymous-donor families - to support the creation of new works of dance by the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers.

Your donation to Shumka’s New Works Development Fund will be used to:

  • Research and develop artistic and cultural content for Shumka’s new works;
  • Develop the talents of the dancers who will perform the new works;
  • Provide specialized training opportunities for dancers who aspire to perform with Shumka;
  • Provide employment opportunities for artists who create and stage the work that Shumka performs (musicians, costume and set designers, stage technicians and others);
  • Create and produce original music for Shumka’s new works; and,
  • Design and produce costumes for Shumka’s new works.
