Shumka School of Dance: Your personal connection to the heritage and traditions of Canada's Ukrainian Shumka Dancers

Come and explore Alberta ’s treasured art and culture through Shumka School's award-winning core program, enrichment classes, performance opportunities, and summer dance camps - whatever your age and interest, there is a place for you at Shumka School of Dance!
Ukrainian dance today combines elements of traditional Ukrainian folk dance with contemporary styles of training and performing. Elements of national stage dance, ballet, character dance and dramatization are woven into time-honoured tapestries, creating today's stage dance in the style characteristic of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers.
From pre-beginner through grade nine, we offer 12 levels of high-calibre dance training and cultural enrichment, plus six levels of Ballet and Technique Enrichment classes. Each level is guided by a step-by-step curriculum that builds on knowledge and skill, from one year to the next. Shumka’s Syllabus for Ukrainian Dance has stood the test of time, and is used by instructors from coast to coast; the most widely-respected program of its kind in Canada.

Our instructors work hard to ensure your personal success, whether you’re here just for the fun and fitness, or you intend to pursue a professional career in dance. Girls and boys alike are inspired to challenge their minds and bodies, building confidence, self-esteem and a healthy appetite for physical fitness.
