Audition
Audition to become one of Canada's Ukrainian Shumka Dancers!
WHERE: Shumka Studios 12245 - 131 Street NW Edmonton
WHEN: Doors open @ 12 p.m. - Audition 1 - 3 p.m.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 16 years old or in Grade 10
This is your opportunity to dance in Canada's only professional Ukrainian dance company. Shumka is seeking experienced dancers for our upcoming 2011-2012 Canadian Tour and a special cultural exchange with the world-renowned Virsky Ensemble from Ukraine.
Shumka performs original Ukrainian regional dance repertoire and new contemporary works in Shumka’s dance-theatre style, in local, national, and international touring productions. Dancers also participate in world-class projects developed with other theatrical producers.
Auditions are open to the entire dance community and consist of Ukrainian regional dance-step combinations, a ballet class, character improvisation and an opportunity for the dancer to demonstrate their solos. Successful candidates from the general audition are invited to join a company class at a later date, as the second phase of the audition process.
Serious dancers who may not have Ukrainian dance experience but have high-calibre training in ballet/jazz dance technique, acrobatics, or stage in another style of heritage dance, are given every consideration.
Dancers of exemplary ability, who are unable to attend general auditions but can submit an audition DVD demonstrating their ability, are invited to phone or email Artistic Director Dave Ganert, for an alternate audition time.
