Kristel Busby began her dancing career at the age of four. She studied Ballet,
Jazz, Tap, Ukrainian, and Character and for the last 6 years her focus has concentrated
on Ukrainian and Ballet. During this time she was privileged with the opportunity
to dance with the Kyiv Ballet and take part in musical theater with the St-Albert
Children's Musical Theater. Kristel has had the privilege of working with distinguished
artists and teachers such as Charles McGowan, Bill Robertson,Victor Litvinov,
and has taken guest classes from the Riverdance company. She has traveled North
America, Australia, and Fiji with various dance tours. Kristel is excited about
her new artistic involvement with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. Kristel attends
the University of Alberta.
Janelle Serediak has been dancing for 17 years and is currently in her 5th
year as a Ukrainian Shumka Dancer. Janelle spent her earlier years dancing with
Zorianka of Edmonton and was able to travel to Canada's National Ukrainian Festival
in Dauphin, Manitoba with them. Janelle
has had the privilege of working with John Pichlyk and Victor Litvinov as well
as experimenting with Polissian choreography with Vincent Rees for Shumka's
Cinderella.
Tara Wood has been dancing for twenty years and is currently in her seventh
year as a Ukrainian Shumka Dancer. She has had extensive training in the areas
of jazz, tap, ballet, modern, musical theatre, and Ukrainian dance. Tara is
a graduate of the Grant MacEwan Community College Dance Program. Combined with
Shumka this training has given her the opportunity to work with various artists
and choreographers, as well as allowing her to showcase some of her own choreography
in Calgary. For the past six years Tara has enjoyed teaching Ukrainian Dance
to children and adults in Edmonton and in rural communities throughout Alberta.
