With over twenty-two years of Ukrainian dance to his credit, Dave Ganert has become
one of Shumka's recognizable and leading performers.
Dave began his dance training at the age of five and has studied Ukrainian,
Ballet, Character, and Modern dance through workshops and seminars taught by
some of the world's masters in these disciplines. As a dance teacher, Dave has
instructed dance to a wide age range of dancers in over 12 dance schools and
has taught workshops throughout Canada and the United States.
In 1991, Dave had the privilege of joining and training with the distinguished
and world-renowned Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. Dave has performed in five national
tours, three international tours and performed to over 300 000 patrons in over
30 different cities.
1998 proved to be an impressive year in which Dave became one of the choreographers
for Shumka's multi-million dollar production of Cinderella. Dave's innovative
artistic talents and choreography have garnered him awards and recognition throughout
Canada.
Shumka recognized his dedication and aspirations by naming him as Shumka's
Associate Artistic Director. His first major project was taking a lead position
in remounting Shumka's Cinderella for the Festival of the World's in August
2001.
Dave Ganert's commitment to high technical standards, his creative talents,
boundless energy and commitment to a rich culture have made him a much-respected
member of the Ukrainian Dance community.
