Finally a Reality--the Shumka Legacy Project
LOUISE MCKINNEY RIVERFRONT PARK STAGE
The dream of a project to honor the Ukrainian Shumka Dancer's nearly five decades of accomplishments is now a reality! The outdoor performance stage is prominently located in Louise McKinney Riverfront Park, nestled below the Shaw Conference Centre in the North Saskatchewan River valley. With 500 meters of breathtaking, unobstructed river view, the park is the front door to the river valley parks system and a gateway to trails throughout the city. The City of Edmonton planners envision Louise McKinney Riverfront Park as a vibrant location for special events and river-based public activities and our Legacy Project is now front and center. This remarkable structure, a joint effort between the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers Alumni Association and the City of Edmonton, was designed by Carlyle & Associates Architects and constructed by Krawford Construction Inc. This multi-purpose performance venue is able to host a variety of community celebrations and international arts performances. It features a unique curved glass retractable roof and a permanent naming surface identifying it as the "Shumka" stage. |
